Sad Day for the Pac

Today marks the end of the Pac-12 Conference — and particularly the original eight schools from California, Oregon, and Washington.

Growing up in Oregon, I watched a lot of “Pac-10” sports on TV and in person. Some of my favorite memories are the many Saturday drives down I-5 with my grandparents in their Chrysler (either the ‘68 Imperial or the Fury) to watch a football game either at Autzen or Parker Stadium. My brother and I really miss those wood-soaked wood end zone bleachers.

The final game I took my grandfather to was in October 1988. On that day I drove him down in the Imperial, and we watched the Ducks led by QB Bill Musgrave beat the #17 ranked UW Huskies 17–14 that day. The next time I likely watch a Ducks vs. Huskies game at Autzen, it will be a Big 10 conference matchup.
