It shouldn’t come as a big surprise that students across the K12 spectrum are stressed and increasingly carrying the effects of what the last 18 months of school has felt like. This recent study thankfully highlights that awareness amongst educators for social and emotional learning (“SEL”) is on the rise, as is the belief in its importance within the broader construct of education.

This line from the study’s press release sums it up quite well:

“Teachers also find that student confidence has plummeted, and it is easier for them to disengage from learning.”

So what can we do to reengage students who have lost confidence and who have disengaged from their learning? Keep supporting educators in their efforts to bring SEL into their teaching efforts. Make sure they for sure have formalized SEL programs that allow them to gage the well-being of their students, and make sure they have the technologies that allow them to connect with those students (and their parents and caregivers) beyond the physical classroom.

You never know which message, delivered through which channel or device, will make that difference for a student.
